Bertelsmann Stiftung

The Bertelsmann Stiftung wanted to generate insights into the job market in Germany.

Our structured analysis enabled the foundation to support the policy-makers in making the best decisions for improving it.

Using innovative methods and data sources, the Bertelsmann Stiftung wants to provide guidance on which skills will be in demand in the labor market of the future. Our contribution supports them in fulfilling their mission.

We created a database from over 250 million online job postings using Ada, our data pipeline module.

The job postings were collected from the leading job board portals, company websites and news outlets. We took the information and organized it in a structured database.

Ludwig, our machine learning module, reads the descriptions and extracts all relevant concepts.

While job industry, employer, and location are usually listed in pre-formatted fields, most of the information is written in the job description in plain text. Our algorithms can process millions of job postings automatically.

The data can be analyzed using the algorithms to generate original insights.

Bertelsmann Insights

We can now inform what skills or qualifications are sought after in a specific job or sector, which soft skills are trending, or which industries were negatively affected by corona.

The dashboard 'jobmonitor.de' allows the Bertelsmann Stiftung to communicate unique insights on job market trends.

Based on our visualisation module Florence, it is now possible to see how the job market evolves every month, trends on occupations and soft skills, and compare results between districts and time windows.

The information can be accessed via interactive maps and charts.
